Digital Rotary input via Crowns for Smartwatches and Wearables
PixArt's Optical Tracking Sensor (OTS) technology has evolved into a diverse range of applications over the past twenty years. One of its recent and widely adopted uses is in rotary movement detection for crown shafts in smartwatches and wearable devices. This technology can detect the degree of rotation of a shaft turned by the user. By transmitting this data to the smart device, it enables users to make various customized settings.
To support and streamline future development, we offer maximum flexibility in infrastructure design for our customers. The powerful OTS module, which includes a built-in laser light source, is packaged in a compact, reflowable surface-mount design. It can detect stainless steel crown shafts with diameters as small as 1mm, and it supports readings from both glossy and rough shaft surfaces with a roughness level between RA0.5 and 1µm. To enhance accuracy for shafts with thin diameters, the resolution of PixArt's OTS module can be adjusted to as high as 630 counts per revolution, with a detection speed of up to 300 RPM (revolutions per minute).
PixArt has consistently demonstrated the quality of its sensors, supplying them to a wide range of top-tier smartwatch manufacturers for rotary OTS applications. Smart Glasses
Smart glasses can be defined as wearable computer glasses that provide additional information to the wearer based on what they see, or as highly adjustable glasses that can be customized for an enhanced visual experience (for example, to adjust focal or lens tint settings). Both types of smart glasses require controllers that are easy to operate, with a small form factor that can be integrated into the spectacle frames or temples—something PixArt delivers through our many years of expertise in control technologies.
PixArt offers two readily available control technologies to choose from. The Capacitive Finger Navigation (CFN) technology provides a touchpad function that allows the wearer to intuitively select from a wide range of options. If prefers fewer selectable functions, the Optical Finger Navigation (OFN) system offers free navigation or up to 8-directional selectivity control.
