Smart Pixel Optical Sensing

With the revolution in smart technologies, PixArt has become the first leader to invent Smart Pixel Optical Sensing, featuring AI-driven pixels that perform raw data processing directly at the pixel level. This front-end computing approach delivers valuable and actionable insights while significantly reducing the time and bandwidth required for data transmission, effectively addressing previous bandwidth limitations and latency issues in the industry. Moreover, this advanced image sensor architecture lowers the host's power consumption and processing time, leading to cost savings for the backend processing unit and signifying a substantial advancement in image sensing technology.

Each AI-driven pixel sensing unit in the Smart Pixel device integrates a frame comparison circuit with AI algorithms to analyze pixel intensity variations within a configurable region of interest (ROI) and output relevant data according to the PDM/SMD mode settings. In PDM mode, the sensing device can provide real-time analog frame differences and event data. In SMD mode, the AI-powered algorithms continuously perceive and adapt to the background environment, effectively reducing false detections caused by external lighting variations. When a motion event is detected, it immediately sends an interrupt signal to awaken the host, allowing it to switch to normal operating mode to execute subsequent instructions.

Designed with Always-on application concepts, this highly integrated and miniaturized Smart Pixel device effectively reduces the demand for backend infrastructure through its powerful computation and low-power architecture. This technology leverages optical image sensing with a low-resolution image array to capture images at a high frame rate. It can be seamlessly embedded within a device without requiring an opening for visual access, functioning like a "holeless" camera. This design approach ensures privacy as it does not expose or capture any identifiable visual information. For edge applications that value high speed, accuracy, scalability, security privacy, and cost-effectiveness more than ever, PixArt's Smart Pixel Optical Sensing Device is undoubtedly the most suitable solution.
