PixArt's Distance Sensor module can sense the existence of objects nearby, suggest what they are (e.g., a cliff, a step, a wall, an overhang, or an obstacle - when used in a robot vacuum application), and report useful information about them such as distance/depth, boundary, and size.
 
Built-in with an ASIC controller and a laser diode, a single-axis Distance Sensor module can learn a lot from an object's reflection. By emitting a structured light-plane source from the laser diode and collecting the change of their reflection data, this highly integrated module can immediately output raw distance data and further report readily-usable information about the detected object calculated via its ASIC controller, with very low latency.
 
With its robust detection and computation capabilities, PixArt's Distance Sensor module can be used in various applications to provide different detection services. Apart from the robot vacuum application as mentioned above, the module can also be installed in a variety of devices, including paper shredders (to detect the capacity of an enclosed container), drink dispensers (to monitor liquid level), and safety devices near the elevator doors (to sense nearby obstacles).
